A look back on the best show on Modern Television

WARNING: Massive, MASSIVE spoilers ahead. BEWARE!

If you haven’t noticed, LOST ended on Sunday. Now, the whole internet is theorizing, discussing and wondering what the hell actually happened, and wheter it was good or bad.  Now, I’m not saying I’ll give you an answer to the big mysteries, but I will theorize a little about some of the unanswered (and answered) questions and what was the meaning of the final scene and the alternate universe.

THE END IS HERE; A love letter to the greatest show ever made

Posted in 4 8 15 16 23 42, ABC, Complex, intricate game, It only ends once, Jacob, LOST, Science Fiction, Smokie, Sun, The End, The Final End, The Incident, The Man in Black, Theories on May 15, 2010 by watchingpreacher

The sixth and final season of LOST is clocking in at an incredible pace. It began six years ago, and now, it is ending. Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof has spent six years of their lives to bring us the story of the Island. The time for mysteries is over. The time for answers has come.

The first big mythology-episode of this season was “Ab Aterno”, the episode that gave us the purpose of the Island and the origin of a big mystery; Richard Alpert, the man that lived forever. The second mythology-episode gave us another origin, and perhaps the answer to the biggest mystery of them all; The Smoke Monster. This episode was loved by some and hated by others. It gave us the identity of Adam and Eve, the origin of Jacob and the Smoke Monster and it solved the mystery of where the Frozen Donkey Wheel came from and what its original purpose was. It also answered the question that we all sought to solve; what it all is about.

From here on out, there will be much spoilery talk about the Island, the Smoke Monster and everything else. So beware!

The story that Damon and Carlton has been working hard to tell us over the course of six years is about… A cave with some lights in.
Now, I do realize that sounded stupid and moronic. This is also the main flaw with this episode, and it is what haters will focus on when they tell people why this episode of LOST was simply flawed and dumb. People like that exists, and they will exist, but I am not one of them. I am one of the people that FREAKING LOVED this episode. It is the only episode I have seen two times, just because I thought it was so damn good. It gives us so many answers, and it sets up the conflict that LOST will further explore in the two last episodes of the show. Because, as this episode revealed, LOST is about an epic fight between two brothers, both severely manipulated and fucked up by an unbelievably crazy mother. One of these brothers would protect this light in a cave, which actually is everything; dead souls, living souls, the afterlife, the portal to a new life and rebirth. Simply put, it is everything. And, if we are to believe Jacob and the crazy mother, this light must stay on the Island. Forever. If it leaves the Island, it will destroy all that is. The world would be thrown into chaos. This is the stakes we’re up against. And it actually wouldn’t be that hard to protect this light if Jacob hadn’t thrown his brother into this light after he killed their crazy adoptive mother, something that, if I my theorizing is correct, corrupted the light and made it into a pillar of smoke.

So, basically, the Smoke Monster is everyone that ever died and lived. He is everything and he is nothing. He is what we must pass through to be reborn. He has a grudge against Jacob, he has gained a consciousness and he wants to leave the Island. Now.

In a week from now, LOST will be over. The epic, sprawling saga of a mysterious island with weird science experiments, ancient civilizations and various “special” people will be over. There will be no more time-travelling, no more conciusness-altering love, no more “Not Penny’s Boat”, no more mysteries and no more answers. There will be no more Science vs. Faith, no more Jack, no more Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Faraday, Locke, Smoke Monster, Desmond or Benjamin Linus. No more mysterious hatches, old corpses, people arriving to the Island, no more Dharma, no more weird storytelling experiments, no more Flashforwards, no more Flashbacks and no more FlashSideways. It will all be over. Now, many of us may not think about how much this series actually means for us, but seriously; LOST means everything to me. LOST is like Star Wars, and I imagine the feeling I will have next week will be exactly the feeling I had after I’d seen STAR WARS: Revenge of the Sith in cinemas, the very feeling I was left with when I read the last Harry Potter book.. It was something like this; “It’s over. Great.” *Deep breath* “What do I do now?” Fact is, I am in tears now. I am scared as shit, and I am sad. Because, come 2011 and onwards, we won’t have anything even remotely close to LOST. We will never have a six-year long show that is filled with mysteries, with clues, with hidden easter eggs and with weird connections to all and everything. It just won’t happen. LOST has done what no other show have done; it has created a six-year long sprawling epic, with not one really bad episode (yes, I actually liked season three’s “EXPOSE”). It is the first show that has managed to contain one big storyline for six seasons, with never giving answers until now. And it has never, not once, been in real danger of being cancelled. It has had a loving and loyal fanbase that almost never gave it up. It will go down in history as one of the greatest shows ever written, just because it actually managed to get to the end and tell the story it wanted too. It is one of the few shows that was a huge hit from the very first episode, and it has been like that over the course of six seasons. And now it’s ending, one minute at a time.

Come next week, I will only have one question about my life, about LOST and about TV; “What do I do now?”

Goodbye LOST. Travel well, and know that you will forever stay in our hearts and minds. I seriously have no idea what to do, what to obsess about now that this superb journey is coming to an end, and it hurts like hell. Come next TV-season, there will be a show missing from all our time-tablets, and we will be sad when we finally figure out what it is. We will no longer have anything to obsess about, to think about, to talk about. But, sadly, life goes on. We just have to find something else to live for.

Farewell, LOST. Know that you will be forever missed, and that you’ll always have a place in our hearts. In comparison, we won’t have anymore terribly exciting cliff-hangers to solve over the course of summer. All of our lives will change, because this is the end. And it will forever be.

So goodbye LOST. We love you. And we always will.

An Alternate Theory

Posted in 4 8 15 16 23 42, ABC, Ajira Airways, Complex, Hurley, intricate game, It always ends the same, Jack, Jacob, Locke, Loophole, LOST, Mumbo Jumbo, Progress, Science, Science Fiction, Smokie, Theories, TV, Uncategorized on February 26, 2010 by watchingpreacher

Wow. These five first episodes of LOST’s sixth and final season have all been filled to the brink with answers. The main problem as of now has been that these answers are coming from characters whose intentions aren’t exactly straight-forward. For all we know, all the answers we’ve been given may just be lies to manipulate both The Others and the Losties.

My theory will focus on the following things, and I will look closer at all of them.

The Smoke Monster = FLocke, Lockeness Monster, Locke, MiB or whatever you wish to call him
MiB wants to go home (wherever that is)
Jacob has «candidates»
The «inside joke»
The loophole
«Hell? Yes.»
The «Flash-sideways» and their purpose

Now, let’s begin with taking a closer look at The Smoke Monster and what we’ve learnt about him in the previous seasons. First of all, we’ve been hearing a long time that The Smoke Monster works as «some kind of security system» for the Island, something we’ve heard from the Others and Rousseau. Still; it seems as if the Others doesn’t exactly trust this being, as Richard is scared of it and they’ve lived in New Otherton for the last three years, protected by the sonic fence that Dharma made.

We’ve also learnt that the Others know about Jacob, and that he has been their leader for quite some time. These facts are supported by Richard Alpert, the mysterious man that never ages and who works as Jacob’s messenger or maybe a guide? Much is unknown as of now. Hopefully, we’ll know more in the upcoming episodes.

There is still a lot of things that we’re not entirely sure of when speaking of The Smoke Monster. We know now that it is this entity that has taken over Locke’s appearances, and that this is probably the same person as the mysterious Man in Black that we saw in The Incident on the beach with Jacob. Again, we have Richard to support this theory; he freaked when he finally connected the dots.

In summary; The Smoke Monster serves as Jacob’s security system. But he is tired and pissed off; he doesn’t want to be the security system anymore. He wants to free himself from Jacob’s control and the Island. Then he wants to go home. But we’ll get back to this.

In the last two episodes («The Substitute» and «Lighthouse») we’ve learnt about Jacob’s candidates, both from FLocke and Jacob himself. Although the major information dump came from FLocke, it was confirmed by Jacob in «Lighthouse». But what is the purpose of these «candidates»? From the information FLocke has given us, these characters that may continue Jacob’s work for him, and protect the Island. FLocke continues to baffle us with new information; he tells Sawyer in the caves that the Island doesn’t need protection – «it’s just a damn island!». Well, it isn’t. Donkey wheel, time-traveling, button-pushing – weird things are happening on this Island, and I think it is vital that someone protects it. Then again, this is just my take on it: maybe FLocke sees it differently?

Before telling us about the «candidates», FLocke takes a white stone lying on a scale and throws it out, leaving the black rock at the scale. When Sawyer asks about this, FLocke answers «Inside Joke». Well, I believe that this inside joke is actually just that – an inside joke. FLocke is the good one of the bunch, therefore he threw the white stone into the ocean. FLocke aka The Smoke Monster has been held captive on the Island to work as Jacob’s security system and now he wants to go home. Be free. Live his life. Whatever’s left of it anyway.

And now, the Loophole. This is the thing that has been really bugging people lately; there seems to be nothing short of impossible to find the true loophole. But it’s actually quite simple. I was baffled when this opportunity hit me this morning. Guess you could call me deeply shocked, all the way down to my core. Because people; we already know the loophole.

This loophole-thing, if true, is something that the writer’s have really done well and pulled off. If my theory is correct, the loophole works as the following;

Jacob has in all these years used The Smoke Monster as his security system. For a long time now, The Smoke Monster has wanted to kill Jacob, but there has always been rules to keep him from doing so. Still; recently, Jacob has truly and utterly bent said rules one time too many. Jacob has manipulated all of the Losties (the 815-ers) to get to the Island. He has even manipulated some of them twice. This, however, is probably not the Loophole. But it is very, very connected.

When I started thinking of this, I also thought of the scene where Jacob was killed. Three characters was present in this scene: Jacob, (F)Locke and Ben. I started thinking; what is it that Locke and Ben have in common? They are obviously a big part of the Loophole – so which part do they play? Then it hit me. Like a giant rock to the head; They both used the donkey wheel. Ben used it to move the Island, while Locke used it to fix the time-jumps.
There is, however, some important facts that comes into play with the Donkey Wheel & the Loophole – it was under Jacob’s orders that Ben had to move the Island, but it was under FLocke’s «orders» that Locke had to die. I also remember that Ben said that «Whoever moves the Island can never return», yet Jacob used his clever manipulating skills to get both Ben and Locke’s corpse back to the Island. I believe that this is the loophole – Jacob has broken the rules. And whose job is it to protect the Island? The Smoke Monster. This gave poor old Smokie his chance to kill Jacob, or, more precisely, make Ben kill him, then kick him into the fire.

I do, however, think that Jacob did most of this on purpose; he knew that FLocke would use all his mistakes to kill him. But he chose death over life, knowing that when he died he could do so much more – like, stalk Hurley and give him weird missions without letting on everything. He has so much more control over everything now. He is kind of an Obi Wan Kenobi. The only thing is we do not know who Darth Vader is.

Some people wondered if, at the end of «The Substitute», Sawyer answered FLocke’s question with «Hell? Yes.» leading us to believe that FLocke was Lucifer and he wanted to go back to Hell. I do not believe this. Still; there are many things one could say if this was true. It would then be like God keeping Lucifer as his «security system», which is just completely and utterly wrong. (And now, do correct me if I’m wrong) Still; in this case, I think we’re reading too much into a single line of dialogue.

In the most recent episode, «Lighthouse», a Jack-centric episode, we learnt more about the alternate timeline, or the «flash-sideways» if you’d like. Jack apparently has a kid here. Hmm. Interesting. Yet, as of now, these flash-sideways are only fun looks into a world without the Island. The writers are saying that they will eventually become something more, and that they have a purpose. Well; I believe that the mirrors in the flash-sideways and on the Island are vitally important for our story.

We’ve known for a long time that the sixth season is a «mirror» to the first season, but I think there’s more to this then we already know. In each flash-sideways, at least one character studies himself in the mirror. It was Jack in «Lighthouse» and Locke in «The Substitute». But in «Lighthouse», Locke stared into a mirror on the Island too. Yes, I’m referring to the mirrors in the lighthouse. And who led Jack and Hurley to the Lighthouse? Jacob. Why? They had to make the Island noticeable, because someone was coming. Still; he seemed a tad uncaring when Jack had destroyed his Lighthouse. «Well, I guess they have to find another way then». Like, no biggie. We’ll fix it. I think it was a very good reason that he did not care about the Lighthouse; I think he wanted it destroyed. But since Jacob believes heavily in Free Will (or does he?), he manipulated Jack to travel there, grow angry and destroy them. Why? Because the Lighthouse isn’t what it seems. It’s not a lighthouse for getting to the Island from the outside world; it’s a means of traveling to the other timeline.

I guess you want some kind of proof for that last one. Well… There were mirrors in there; mirrors to another place. Mirrors to… a mirror world? Like, for instance, an alternate timeline? When you in addition to this think that the sixth season mirrors the first one, this all kind of makes sense.

But why is this important, you ask. Well… This is important because if FLocke had traveled to the Lighthouse and turned the wheel to 108 degrees, he would’ve been able to go home. Yes; I believe that the mirrors, when turned to 108 degrees, leads to a world where all of the candidates are currently alive, and that FLocke wants to get to this world because this is where he comes from. He wants to go home to the alternate timeline and live the life he always wanted.

Think about it for a minute. This would make Jacob and FLocke complete opposites – they believe in different things (fate vs. free will) and they come from different timelines!

Now, when you’re done thinking about it, tell me what you think!

Before you ask; this blog will not move. There. Now that’s finally over.

In February, the first two hours of LOST’s sixth and final season will begin. For one last season, we will see Jack, Hurley, Kate, Sawyer, (F)Locke l, Walt(?) and Claire. Rumor has it that old friends will be returning and new sides of the friends we still have will be revealed. It’s been a long wait since the Season 5 finale, bur now it’s almost over. In just about a month, the final chapter of the LOST-saga will begin. We will solve many mysteries, but I hope that we can all remember the joy we had in trying to solve them.

It began in 2004. It ends six years later, in 2010. It’s been some years, huh?

To the mysteries of LOST and the fact that they finally will be solved. It’s all because of us.

It’s all because of you.

See you in February!

LOST Rewatch: S1 E7 – The Moth

Posted in Uncategorized on June 22, 2009 by watchingpreacher

Then we’re off again! First off; this is an alarmingly relaxed episode. It’s really something. There are probably much to get here on the real story behind it,  but I just can’t do that today. It’s just annoying. And I’ve probably already done it with so many other episodes so you know what; Today I haven’t watched as I’m theorizing. I’ve watched it as the great entertainment and fun this really is. The Charlie episodes are my favorites. I love Charlie. He’s probably my main dude, the one I feel sorry for and can compell to. I’m a boy (obviously, would a girl do this on her spare time?) but still, I cried at the end of Season 3 when Charlie died. I get why he died; the new storyarc couldn’t make him fit, and I love how he died; it was heroic and nice. So, I’ve always felt that he died in a good way.

Second off: Charlie’s life problems is really cool and emotional. His brotherly problems, drug problems and the fact that he is now a Moth: ready to face his destiny. And then it’s time to talk about favorite characters.

My favorite characters are Desmond, Charlie, Daniel Faraday and John Locke. I like all of the characters, but these are the ones I really love…

And now, to my departness… I’ve known this would be coming, but I really can’t do this anymore. I’m signing off the Lost Rewatch. There, I’ve said it. Episode 7 of Season 1 is the last episode I’m Rewatching and posting here. And do NOT misunderstand me; I WILL continue to rewatch LOST. I’ll do it fast, and you won’t see these kinda posts for every episode. You’ll see them for 10 episodes, or when I get an idea or a theory. Earlier I’ve said that I’m going to use the Rewatch to make my own theories and use the facts to build them up, and that is what I’m going to do. I’ll be back with new theories and new posts the whole year until the final season of LOST begins in January. Then I’ll continue with these “1 post, 1 episode”-thingies. Otherwhise I wouldn’t survive the summer. Or the rest of the year.

See you later LOSTies! And please, follow my new blog where I’ll talk about large things and little things. Like the books/comics I read, what I can’t wait for, the movies I’m watching and finally all the news that will arrive. Have a blast!

LOST Rewatch: S1 E6: House of the Rising Sun

Posted in 4 8 15 16 23 42, ABC, Complex, Doc Jensen, Hurley, intricate game, Jack, Kate, Locke, LOST, LOST Rewatch, Michael, Mumbo Jumbo, Progress, Science, Science Fiction, Smokie, Sun, Theories, TV, Uncategorized, Walt on June 14, 2009 by watchingpreacher

Okay, let us begin. Again, we are on the great and still mysterious Island. And again, the series is REALLY character driven. There isn’t much story going on, besides “How are we going to survive?”. Then we got the polar bear that everyone had forgotten about, and now “Our very own Adam and Eve” as Locke says. I’ve waited with the whole “Move to the caves”-issue till this post, because it’s more discussed and a great storyline in this episode. This was also the episode I started liking Sun and Jin. I hated them, they were really annoying in the first episodes, but with their backstory I couldn’t resist. And neither could you. We also got some nice love-moments, and a great ending to the episode with a song in which the lyrics was “Are you sure this is where you want to be?”, thus discussing both the Island and the caves/beach topic. GREAT!

Then, there are all the tons of shit I’ve forgotten. Like all of the LOL-moments LOST had at its beginning. All the fun comments, and us getting to know and love these characters. It really was that great! Anyway, this episode begins with Jin attacking Michael and almost beating him to death right in front of Walt. Later we found out that it was because of the watch that Michael found while searching for things in the wreckage. And now to my completely dump theory of the day. I repeat; This one is ALL FOR FUN! It probably has no basis in reality whatsoever!

Here is is; Michael gets beaten by Jin because of the Watch he finds among the wreckage. Now, is this a hint that Michael partly causes Time to be beaten up in the Season 4/5? Probably not. I said this one came from nowhere.

Anyway, in this post I won’t theorize. This time I just said to myself; Enjoy. Because I knew that this was one of the episodes that were made to progress the story more onward. Though, there are much that I could have talked about here; Charlie’s tattoo and drug problem, but I’ve chosen to wait with those till the next episode. I will, however, show you an image of the scene with John Locke and Charlie. It’s one of the things I remembered a long time after this one, and I think it’s fabulous.

Look Up, Charlie

Locke: Look up, Charlie. Charlie: This isn't where you tell me to pray? Locke: Look up! (points)

Then, we arrive at the final part of my new theory-recap of the sixth episode. I have to talk about Inside Jokes, Adam and Eve and maybe also bees. I’ll do it fast. First, Charlie jokes about Kate and Jack having an “inside joke” about Jack’s tattoo’s, which we will learn the true meaning of in Season 3. But the thing is, I really love Kate and Jack’s place in the sun before Sawyer and/or Juliet arrives and fucks it all up. I still think these are the two people that really needs to get together and STAY that way! Now, I’ve been wrong before. I spent the whole second and third season telling everybody that Claire and Charlie had to become special friends. I was wrong. Charlie died a heroic, yet tragic death and Claire disappeared. Oh, sweet love. Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Maybe there really is an alternate timeline where everyone’s having a ball and Claire and Charlie, Jack and Kate and Sawyer and Juliet are all girlfriends/boyfriends? Ahh, I hope so.

Then to Adam and Eve. I’m so tired of discussing this topic. I think it’s BULLSHIT! Of course I want to know who it is, but I really think that the writers are going to surprise us no matter what we think. Want my opinion? It’s Rose and Bernard. They died in the season 5 finale, and the Others or someone else put them there. Want to know what I really think? It’s Jacob and his Girlfriend. JUST KIDDING! It’s Charlie and Claire. Charlie’s dead and Claire was on the Island during the time jumps. We haven’t got her story, but it is them. Charlie’s going to show up in 1977 and then Claire is left behind. They have sex and eventually die. I want it to be them. But I know it doesn’t make sense. As Jack says, it takes 40 or 50 years for clothes to dry up like this. And that excludes everyone in 1977. They were there before that. I have no idea. The writers have something really interesting going on here, and I can’t wait to see what the answer is. But to discuss it? I’ve spent over 5 days discussing ONLY this topic. I can’t take it anymore. I’m done. Give me the answer NOW!

Till next time, Namaste and Good Luck!

LOST

LOST

And then we’re off again. I’m sorry that my posts seems to pop out four in one day, but I’m only one person and I’ve just begun rewatching the series after a schedual, and sometimes I forget. I promise that by the end of this week, I will begin to do things more often so you won’t have to read four posts in one day. It’s hell writing these too, especially more than two in one day ;) But now, off to the Jack-centered episode named White Rabbit, and what a name it is!

First off, this episode is really what kept me going the first time I watched LOST. You see, I didn’t watch it on TV, it was ALL DVD for me! I bought the first season, and then I started watching. But it didn’t make me extremely interested. Till the fourth episode, Walkabout, which had to do with Locke. That really kept me going. And when I saw White Rabbit, I couldn’t resist. The rest went in 2 days.

This episode opens with an eye, just as the pilot. It’ Jack’s eye, from when he was a young kid. I’m not going to talk about Jack’s father figures, or how fucked-up his life was. I’ll leave that till “All the best Cowboys have Daddy Issues”. That one is still one of my favorites. Anywayl, in White Rabbit we get to watch all of the trouble poor Jack had with his father, Christian. We also got to know the identity of the mysterious guy walking aroung on the Island in Walkabout, the guy only Jack saw. It’s his father, Christian. Then we got to know he is dead. Then Jack found the empty coffin. So, where the HELL is his body? Hmm. I can’t remember, but I know that Christian is truly dead – Damon Lindelof has even told us in one of the LOST Podcasts. So, Christian is probably someone that tries to dupe Jack. Or he’s a version of Jacob. Or it’s the Smoke Monster. We don’t know, but I assume that we will get some answers, and pretty fast in season 6. In the mean time; Roll the theories!

Yes, I have another theory. This one, I name
The TP Theory!
Yes, it has to do with Twin Peaks, one of the best TV-shows the world has ever seen. If you haven’t watched Twin Peaks, skip this section. If there’s one spoiler you don’t want, it’s from Twin Peaks! Now, off to my theory. Twin Peaks starts with the murder of Laura Palmer and develops to a great battle between Good and Evil, where in the last episode ever produced, Evil seems to have won. (This is probably because it was cancelled, but fuck that=) LOST started with a plane crash and eventually ends up with a great battle between two sides. (We do not know if it is Good and Evil yet, but who cares=) In Twin Peaks, we have spirits, visions of people you never have seen before and weird places where you can talk with dead people. That you also have in LOST. Dead People is walking around all the time, hence Locke, Christian, etc. We have weird places where you can talk with mysterious people, as Jacob’s Cabin, and we have spirits like The Smoke Monster. The only thing missing is the Black and White Lodge. But wait! We have those too! Foot of the statue is White = White Lodge. Jacob’s Cabin is black = Black Lodge? Someone has indeed watched Twin Peaks, and loved it! The only sad part of this is that LOST is better than Twin Peaks. Mostly because it will end. We will have the whole story. In Twin Peaks, it ends rather brutally, leaving you wanting more. If Twin Peaks had continued and finished its story, we would have one of the best shows on Earth. But as of now, LOST beats it. Not until the Fifth season, though.

Further down in my research, Doc Jensen stumbled over this site which I now will direct you to; This one lets you read about all of the things LOST and Land of the Lost has in common. It’s a good read, and I have to watch Land of the Lost now. The original, not the Will Ferrel-remake. Though, I’ll probably watch that too. Here the link is, anyway; LOTL/LOST

Alice in Wonderland – White Rabbit

There are just two topics left of this one, now. We have to talk about Alice in Wonderland, then about Locke. But first Alice in Wonderland! Locke says to Jack, replying to Jack’s comment; “I’m chasing something. Or someone”. Locke says; “Ahh. The White Rabbit”, to which Jack replies “Yes. The white rabbit, in other words that I don’t know if it’s real or not”. Or something like that, I don’t remember the whole comment. And, as Locke also tells Jack that “You need to finish what you started”, he follows the white rabbit that has lead him to the Island. Don’t see it? Well, Christian went off to Austrailia to visit Claire, as an episode in season 3 if I remember correctly. Jack follows him, in an attempt to get him back home. Jack then finds his dad eventually, but he’s dead. Jack travels with him back to L.A. (or atleast tries), and ends up in Wonderland. Sorry, the Island, a place of mystery and miracles.

Then, something completely different. Relationships. Every relationship on the Island moves forward in this episode, even their relationship with the Island. Shannon and Boone, Charlie and Claire – everybody. This episode also reminded me about how much I deeply and fully HATE Shannon and Boone; they are annoying, fucked-up bitches that I’ve never cared about. Although I was a little moved when they died.

Locke

In this episode, Locke is beginning to talk about the powers of the Island, and his quest for redemption and his search for answers have begun. As he says, he’s seen into the eye of the Island – And what he saw there was beautiful. Well, maybe we’ll think it’s beautiful too, when we see it by the end of season 6. I really hope so. And then, I want two miniseries – “Dharma” and “Locke”. “Dharma” explores everything about Hanso and the Island while they were there, and “Locke” explores the alternate timeline that they MAY have created. Both would have been fun. I’m not ready to let go of any of the characters on the Island yet. Not in a million years!

And that’s it! See you later, with Sun and Jin in my theory-filled House of Rising Sun. I can’t remember if anything really significant happens in that episode, but I shall find out! But before that, I’m getting some tea. Or Coke. Something to drink while I watch the great 6th episode of LOST. Did I mention that I’m not particulary happy with Sun and Jin? I always thought they were dumb. Until they start speaking english. Now, I love them!

My last word on this episode is actually a quote, it’s from Claire and it was freakin’ hilarious when I watched this episode. So, here it is: “People look at me as if I’m a ticking bomb of responsibility just waiting to go off.”

“Well, you’re not getting rid of me that easy” It’s the line said to Rose by Jack, one of the main dude’s of LOST. And he couldn’t be more right. About the show, himself (the fact that he’s travelled on the Island, off the Island, in Time, and has eventually ended up meeting Rose everyewhere he goes) Kate, Locke (Death isn’t a problem – Just be Taken control of by some mysterious guy!), and everyone/everything else on the show. With that, the new post about the LOST Rewatch have started, and oh boy, we have a lot of ground to cover!

Soo. What happens?

Walkabout is the first episode in which we meet Locke fully for the first time. He is fucked up, miserablea and has anger problems – Again like Anakin in Star Wars – Episode I & II. We also start with some humor on LOST now. In my oppinion, Rose has always been hysterically sarcastic and insanely funny! We get a little backstory on Rose and her husband, Bernard, and a scene where Locke – plays RISK. May this be one of the first signs that he’s just a piece in a game or that someone is playing a difficult and complex game through him? Another thing that moves on in this episode is Michael and Sun’s relationship, Sayids plan and Sawyers awkardness. Claire and Charlie also begins taking control over their situation.

The Season 5 Finale Again…!

“They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.” “It only ends once. Everything else is just progress.” Oh, yeah! The first words in the season 5 finale episode “The Incident”. I have said that I wasn’t through with that episode before, but now is the time to move a little further!

The first words on LOST uttered by the Mysterious Man in Black that may actually forshadow all of LOST’s six and final season. We’ve seen the Oceanic-survivors come. They’ve fought against the Others, Rousseau, each other, Polar Bears and a hell of a lot more! We’ve seen them when they have destroyed things; Locke destroys submarine and Hatch, Jack and Juliet activates bomb, they’ve destroyed each others emotions, weapons, trust, everything that comes their way. They’ve even manage to destroy parts of the GREAT PLAN and their destiny! Of course, this was fixed very shortly after by Ben, Jack and Jeremy Bentham aka John Locke. Just as Rose said in the Season 5 finale: “We’ve travelled 30 years back in time, and you’re STILL finding ways to kill each other on!” No one could have said it better. Wondered what actually happened to them when the bomb went off, and the rest probably travelled in time, and causing the Incident… Hmm, maybe they are the “Adam and Eve” skeletons… Anyway, let’s move on. We’ve now arrived at the corruption. And as I read that, I thought; Hey, they haven’t corrupted anything! Well, when I think about it, actually they have. They’ve corrupted The Others, The Dharma Initiative, Themselves (Michael’s treachery in the last episodes of Season 2) and then they’ve been corrupted. So, rule that one out. The only thing that conversation doesn’t give an answer to is, How does it end? And why doesn’t it do that? Because that would mean that they’ve spoiled the whole sixth season! LOST starts off in the modern world. Why? If it had jumped from the crash of The Black Rock and Oceanic Air Flight 815, or been just about The Black Rock-survivors, we still would have seen the mysteries on the Island. Maybe not so much, but still! It would eventually become the same show. So, why do we follow the Oceanic Air-catastrophe so closely? Because, as Jacob said, “It only ends once. Everything else is just progress.” We are to witness the final, last and inevitable end of it all. We are to see how it ALL ends, not just the story of how some people’s life on the Island is. So, if the ending had been told in that conversation, we still wouldn’t know the ending. Because the final ending may be different than all the other endings. Still want to hear how it all ends? Well, it has already ended. Think about it; we are to witness the FINAL end. That said, it has already ended. But the FINAL END hasn’t ended yet. It’s just begun. But it has ended… Like all of the other “crashed on THE Island”-stories usually ends; Death.

The Black Rock – All of them died. We don’t know how, but they’ve all died, except (maybe) Ricardos Alpert(os?)
Danielle Rousseau’s science expedition – They were all killed by Smokie (to stop them from interfering with The Man in Black’s master plan…?)
Yemi’s Plane – They all died (Also here, we do not know what happened – But Mr. Eko managed to do everything on the list, if I remember correctly.)
Air Balloon – Henry Gale, the owner, Died (The question is, did he manage to do something on the list? Or did Benjamin Linus do it for him…?)
Elizabeth – Desmond’s boat, ended with the death of Kelvin (And Desmond corrupted The Hatch, fought Kelvin and eventually killed Kelvin, thus ending the circle)
Naomi’s Helicopter – This was in season 3. She did it all – Arrived, fought with the wounds and verbally, corrupted the mind of Desmond, making him believe she came on Penelope’s bill, then died)

And finally…. The Ajira Airways 316! That plane made it possible for the Oceanic-survivors to travel back in time and destroying an atom bomb, infiltrating and corrupting the Others (The Man in Black) and oh boy, they did fight with each other, the Dharma Initiative and now the Others will fight on Jacob’s side against the mysterious Man in Black! Remember that this crash has already ended with death; Jacob’s. The final and last end begins when the Oceanic-survivors from 1977 arrives in present time. And they will destroy The Man in Black, fight along with the Others, corrupt the Loop-Hole and finally, end it with the Death of the mysterious Man in Black. Which brings me to another thing; maybe the theory with a new timeline is true after all… Maybe that’s what they’ve corrupted? The original timeline? Anyway, now you know this theory. Enough about the end of LOST – it makes me sad just thinking about it. Let’s move on to Smokie, Locke and Jack!

Smokie, Locke and Jack

This is the first episode where someone actually sees the Monster aka Smokie. And if Smokie can appear as people, then both Jack and Locke have seen it. But only Locke has seen it’s true face. That is, if Smokies true face isn’t the Man in Black, of course. But something makes me believe that the Man in Black has the same control over Smokie that Ben had; He can only summon it. Again, maybe the Man in Black has a little more control over it. I don’t know, and I really don’t want to! The fun thing about this is that when Locke sees the smoke monster, nothing happens. We don’t really know what’s happening. Maybe he is judged? Maybe he learns to control it? Or maybe Smokie and the Man in Black already have started to take control over him? Now, the LOSTPEDIA blog, which you can read HERE, theorises that maybe Locke didn’t see the black Smoke Monster that we all have grown up with, but something else entirely? Either way, he denies it when Michael asks about it, but WE know he saw something. The question is, what? Well, we could ravel on about that for HOURS; it’s much more fun to theorize a little again!

Jack talks with Kate – Jack sees dead father – Dead father enters jungle – Jack runs into Jungle, Kate follows, no one’s there… (Fanfare); Locke steps out!

We know that Locke has met Smokie by now, or atleast seen The Smoke Monster, but is it possible that he is dead already? No, it is not. His body isn’t found before Season 5, in the Ajira Airways-Plane. But maybe the smoke monster already has taken control over bits and pieces? Like Lord Palpatine gradually takes control over Anakin’s will, making him do things that helps his choice about moving over to the dark side… And that again comes back to LOST being a story kinda like Star Wars. But in all large, epic stories about good vs. evil, you have some version of this scenario, right? Anyway, I really enjoy the last part of this episode, where Locke looks on his (almost) burning wheelchair and smiles. He has been granted a huge favor, by the Islands healing powers. But is it really the Island? All of his anger problems ends with his power to walk once again, but is this really a good thing? It makes him mad, and not only that, he also begins to be fanatic about the Island, their destiny and so on. I think the Smoke Monster or the Mysterious Man in Black (we have yet to find out wether he is the Smoke Monster or another being) gave him the power to walk once again, for it was needed so he could believe in the Islands powers and, ultimately, seal his own destiny in a large and complex Risk-game, where his role is as a Colonel, or a guy that’s operating under orders from a general. Now, this general is probably the Man in Black. And so goes the theory!

Until next time, folks, where we will dwell further into the Islands mysteries. But now, just at the end, a little notice about Fringe; they have these “next episode clues”, remember? Well, maybe it was just a clue so that we could do the same thing with LOST? It is funny, how these shows keep having things in common! See you later, Aligator-Headed-Giant-Human-That-We-Originally-Thought-Was-Anubis!

LOST Rewatch: S1 E3: Tabula Rasa

Yes, then we are off to the second post of the LOST Rewatch, and the third episode. As the Pilot-episode is much on introducing the characters, and making Jack the “main dude”, we know learn a little more about Kate. How did she get on the plane? What kinda character is she? Are she really a bad criminal? Well, all of these questions we know the answer to, so I’m not going to talk about that. I’m going to talk about some of the fun things!

Firstly, I noticed something cool. In Season 4/5 we learn about the Oceanic 6 and their lie for saving everyone on the Island. Well, that’s not the first time a group has lied to “save someone” on LOST. The hiking group, in which we have Sawyer, Sayid, Kate, Charlie, Shannon and Boon (yes, that makes six) lie about the radio transmission to save the survivors from losing their hope. Now, is that just a coincidence, or what?

Anyway, in this episode we see a little more of Locke, before the episode “Walkabout” is entirely about him. Hmm, fun fun. And when we talk about Locke, let’s talk a little about John Locke – The philosopher. It is he who has the Tabula Rasa-idea, that (this is taken from Wikipedia) “Tabula rasa (Latin: blank slate) refers to the epistemological thesis that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that their knowledge comes from experience and perception.” And this is exactly what the episode is about; A fresh start. It may also be a clue that the next episode will be about Locke. And it probably is a clue also. Now, I’ll return to the Island since I’m a little bit off the LOST Rewatch schedual, which you can find HERE!

Then I’ll return to the Island! I’ll be back later today or tomorrow to talk about the third episode of the first season; Walkabout.

LOST Rewatch: The Pilot Part I & II

Posted in 4 8 15 16 23 42, ABC, Complex, Hurley, intricate game, It always ends the same, Jack, Jacob, Kate, Locke, Loophole, LOST, LOST Rewatch, Michael, Mumbo Jumbo, Science, Science Fiction, Smokie, Sun, Tawaret, The Incident, The Man in Black, The Statue, Theories, TV, Uncategorized on June 3, 2009 by watchingpreacher

Hello. Then we’re off to rewatch all of LOST 103 hours, which will end when the Sixth and Final season begins its run on ABC January 2010. It’s a long road to redemption, eh?

In these posts, I will cover everything that seems important. I will use these episodes to make new theories, and I won’t sum them up. On LOST and Found – It’s theory time!

So… The Pilot. It is wonderful, I must say that. And we will start with the line “We have to go back”. Remember that one, from the end of the third sesason? Well, here it is again. but now it’s Kate’s line, telling Charlie that they have to go back for Jack. Interesting, as their “go back” will eventually mean back to the Island and the other people that was left behind.

The Pilot continues, and we see Locke, and the first clues of his ”specialties” arrive. The fun thing about this is that we also see the clues that his tale is much like Anakin’s tale in Star Wars, and hence the ”2 sides, black and white” scene with Walt, and the Anakin scar on his face. See? We’ll get back to this one.

And now, we also see the great polar bear. It’s this one;

Now, this one just looks stupid. Right mate?

Now, this one just looks stupid. Right 'mate?

Not this one, which actually is the original.

Looks really terrifying! Right dude?

Looks really terrifying! Right dude?

I kind of liked the original better. It looked more… I don’t know. Real. Or not. At least we could have laughed more. Anyway, we now know where these mysterious polar bears originally came from; The Dharma Initiative brought them to the Island to perform certain experiments. Once more, what we first thought was something supernatural, explained with science. In other words, nothing supernatural about this one. But all this talk about supernatural things brings us to Walt, which might just be the real “chosen one”, and thus the true leaders of The Others. And so on to the Star Wars-theory, and the Locke/Walt scene with the backgammon.
What’s poetic about the scene with Walt and Locke in the Pilot is that in Backgammon, you have black and white (or good and evil). And as we now know that Locke is the bad guy (but he’s white), then is Walt the good, black guy? Hmm. The writers have promised us that we will see more of Walt (haven’t they?), and my theory is that he may be coming back to the Island with Desmond and Penelope, or with another plane. Actually, another plane is more likely, when you think of the Islands thing for repeat. (Remember, the Oceanic 6 – Ajira 316) But what I don’t understand is how his character’s life will move forward. I mean, he’s living with his grandmother. Will she die? What will happen to him so he can get back to the Island? And then the final question: Is his story done? Is it the tragic story we’ve been witnessed to in ”The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham” and the Michael-episode in Season 3? Or is it more to Walt’s story with the Island? Personally, I think that Walt is not done with the Island at all. The Island and LOST has been all about destiny; that will mean that Walt’s purpose on the Island was to set in motion all of the things that has happened. And he actually has! Without Michael’s urge to get Walt from the Others, none of this would probably have happened! Or not. Since Locke would stop pushing the button either way, and then it would have happened anyway. So, what is their destiny? Hmm. Maybe we’ll talk more about Walt and Michael in the following episodes. Now, onto the Locke = Anakin theory!

Locke’s fate is kinda like Anakin’s. He is “the chosen one”, but what does this mean? In Star Wars, it’s said that Anakin is to bring balance the Force, which he does. He goes over to the Dark Side, and becomes a sith. There can only be 2 Siths at one time, and thus he brings balance to the force. Locke’s fate? He is the loophole. He is really the good guy, but then he dies (Anakin didn’t – He went over to the Dark Side instead. Death is kinda like the Dark Side, ain’t it?) and becomes the tool of evil. Anakin is also the Tool of Evil. And what’s funny is this image:

Notice the Anakin-like scar?

Notice the Anakin-like scar?

Notice the Anakin-like scar? Well, sure I did! That brought me to the mentionted theory above!

And we’re moving on. To Rousseau’s distress call that’s been airing in 16 years. To the 48 survivors. And to the Numbers, that keeps popping up even before we knew of their existence.

And then on to the brilliant pun line of Pilot Part II: “Guys, where are we?”, said by Charlie when they hear the distress call. The first flashbacks, that only are taking place in the plane. Little do we know that most of the story is being told in flashbacks. But that gets clearer in the next episodes.

Then off to The mysterious Vincent. All from the beginning, something is scary and mystifying about him. But what’s the deal? No clues have been delivered. Yet.

The Marshall, who is waking up in this episode and searching desperately for someone/something. Hmm. May this be the first loophole indication?

Sawyer is getting closer to Kate, Boone and Shannon are arguing to hell and back, the monster that “killed them all”, and the LOST show that starts out almost like a horror movie in the jungle and turns into a time-travelling show. We’ve certainly gone a long way since the first season!

So, that was the Pilot Rewatched! Can’t wait to see you later, when I’m rewatcing Tabula Rasa! It will be fun!
